Missoni began in when Rosita and Ottavio, known affectionately as Tai, met in 1948 and subsequently opened their first knit shop in 1953. The bold geometric patterns and knits of zigzags and waves has been their signature design pattern. Their international status took hold when they were acknowledged and championed in 1965, by renowned editor Anna Piaggi. In 1973, Missoni was given the Neiman Marcus Award, a highly regarded sign of their prominence and success. Today, Missoni is still run by family members – their daughter Angela has been the head designer since 1996, their sons Luca and Vittorio run the business and Angela’s daughter, Margherita, is the brand's ambassador. In 2006, Rosita, Angela and Margherita were given the Glamour Women of the Year Award from Glamour Magazine in recognition of their distinction in their field.
