Today, Johnson works as a prominent documentary film producer, conveying strong humanitarian messages for the world to see. Johnson’s ties to the world of art and design run deep. She serves as chair of the Board of Governors of Parsons The New School for Design in NYC, where she funded both an award-winning design center and a scholarship for talented but underserved students. In May 2012, Johnson, along with designer and friend Donna Karan, was honored by Parsons for her contributions to the field. A fervent advocate of arts and education, she was appointed by President Obama to serve on the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. As founder and CEO of Salamander Hotels and Resorts, Johnson oversees a growing portfolio of luxury properties, including the new Salamander Resort & Spa, opening in Middleburg, VA, in 2013. For five years, Johnson served as global ambassador for CARE, a leading aid organization that fights global poverty by empowering women. She also serves on the boards of the Sundance Institute Board of Trustees, the ANNIKA Foundation, the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Jackie Robinson Foundation. An accomplished violinist, Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts in music from the University of Illinois. A mother of two, she lives in Middleburg, VA, with her husband, the Honorable William T. Newman, Jr.
